Nearly a year ago, Kurt Bielawski opened his home decor shop, KD Biel, for “people who love design.” Now, he’s bringing that vision to a second location, on Knox Street. “It’s going to be sort of the same DNA, but I’m adding some other interesting things that are going to be exciting, new, different,” the Dallas-based designer says. He’s taking over a space on Knox Street that used to be part of the larger Pottery Barn store, which has been divided into smaller shops.

Bielawski, who owns MORE Design + Build, has always had an affinity for retail; his career actually began at Neiman Marcus. The first KD Biel location found an enthusiastic customer base in the Design District. The store is stocked with sophisticated decor and housewares: items Bielawski designed himself, from bed linens and furniture to appetizer plates featuring an image of his own Jack Russell terrier; ceramics from artists around the world; wellness and apothecary goods (soaps, candles, perfume); kitchen tools; gardening equipment; and even pantry treasures like cookies and chocolates. “I always want to have interesting things, but I never want people to walk in and feel like they’re in a museum and can’t be comfortable in our shop,” Bielawski notes.
